What is Joint Hypermobility?
Joint Hypermobility is a disorder of connective tissue called collagen. Abnormalities result in collagen that is more elastic, finer and thinner. Individuals have lax ligaments, weak muscles and excessive ranges of movement in joints. Joint Hypermobility can be a feature of Ehles-Danlos or Martans Syndrome but more commonly it is an inherited benign condition.

It is commonly associated with a range of symptoms including pain, dislocations, psychological and gastro-intestinal symptoms (see below). Joint Hypermobility Syndrome occurs in individuals with joint hypermobility who suffer a range of chronic symptoms.
