Manual Therapy

Manual therapy includes joint mobilisation, manipulation and soft tissue releases.

Joint Mobilisations/Manipulation

Mobilisations are a skilled procedure where rhythmic oscillations of a painful or stiff joint in a certain direction and amplitude are used to relieve pain and gain mobility.

Manipulation is a sudden quick movement of a joint, which may produce a crack. The direction of the manipulation is critical for the success of the manipulation in freeing a spinal restriction or malalignment. Our practice uses the Maitland approach to spinal mobilisation/manipulation which is taught in the postgraduate manipulative physiotherapy programs in Australia. However we also incorporate techniques from other approaches eg. Karltenborn Mulligan, Stoddart and McKenzie.

Soft Tissues Releases

Back ManipulationThese are soft tissue techniques to help to relieve muscle tightness, spasm and pain.
